January Knitting

I have two projects on the needles at the moment. One is a project I started a year ago, and am now determined to have finished within a week or so. The other is new.

The Eyelet Rib Vest has been hibernating since last winter, when I put it aside for more pressing projects. But now that I spend part of my days in an office, a vest would be very useful. So, I am working feverishly on this one. In the past three days or so I have completed the back (it was 80% finished) and am past the half way mark on the front. I am knitting this in one piece although the project originally had it as a button-up. I saw some done as one piece, and decided that would suit me better.

The yarn is Emu Superwash Double Knit, which I picked up a few years ago at Fun Knits at one of her yearly sales for, I think, about a $1.50 a ball. It knits up very nicely, and I am looking forward to wearing this vest soon.

The second project is a pair of socks. The pattern is Jules, a free pattern off Ravelry. The yarn is Tofutsies, the yarn with wool, soysilk, cotton and chitin in it. This is the first time I’ve knit with it. So far it is nice, although you do have to watch it a bit as it is splitty. I like the feel of it. The socks are for me.

So January is off to a productive start!

  1. Isn’t it tough to pick up an abandoned project and figure out where you are with it? Ask me how I know! :-)

  2. I like the eyelet pattern. I don’t look good in vests, but I like the lacy look of that one. I really like the socks! I never did cast on for the fascine socks… I should try to do that.

  3. i’m so happy to hear your making socks for yourself! you always seem to be making socks for others. (that yarn is really cool – i like how it stripes)

and ooooh – that vest looks lovely!! hooray for resurrecting old projects – especially ones as nice as this one!

  4. And yet again, Melissa and I have the same thought…I’m glad that both knits are for you!! Is that wrong? ;) I bet the vest will look great…and I really like the colors in the sock yarn (I think I have some Tofutsies I bought long ago for a baby knit…will be curious to hear more how you enjoyed knitting and wearing it).

  5. I love the vest!!!!

  6. sounds like a good start for knitting – i’m sure you will get good use out of both. i have been thinking i would really like a vest for layering on winter walks, but now it will have wait until i can knit again. hopefully not too long.

  7. I love that you’ve picked up last year’s project and are so dedicated to finishing it! It is lovely! The soft brown with the delicate eyelets will be divine as a one piece. Way to go!

Love your new socks, too. Great colours and great you’re knitting yourself a pair. They sound like they’ll be super-comfy and soft.

Welcome! I always like to hear what people think of a post, it often leads to a great discussion! I am now responding to comments and questions right in the comments themselves, so other people can follow the conversation.
