The Joy of Garter

Garter stitch is the peanut butter and jam of knitting. The homemade mac and cheese. It lacks the chic of stockinette and the mystique of lace. Instead of a complex cable it is simply an expanse of even ridges.

It is in that basic simplicity, however, that one finds beauty.

I love knitting in all its many forms and techniques. But on a blustery March Sunday some garter stitch short rows, a good book and some sleeping cats…. That is joy.

  1. Yes, there’s just nothing like garter stitch. It’s just good for the soul. And that pattern looks like so much fun!!

    • It really is fun, I’ll do a post about it soon as it is growing so nicely!

  2. I was just thinking the other day that I don’t have any garter stitch on the needles right now and that’s just wrong. There is true comfort in it. I think I know the pattern you are knitting…very cool! And I’m really loving the color combination you’ve got going on there! Can’t wait to see an update on it.

    • New post on it today!
