First Day of Spring

Sights and sounds on the first day of spring:

  • fat robins chirping loudly and hopping around the wet lawn
  • thundersnow!
  • brilliant sunshine
  • fresh snow on the mountains
  • blue hyacinths ready to burst open
  • yellow forsythia blossoms just starting to bloom
  • chives poking through the ground
  • deep red rhubarb pushing up in the garden bed
  • scattered branches as the wind picked up
  • a flicker drumming on a chimney top

What a crazy month March is on the west coast!

  1. Lovely, especially the rhubarb.

  2. Ah, Spring! It is soooo nice to finally see it’s fresh face. I esp. love to see the Robins again. And the thundersnow! Wow, that’s a first for me – it was strange. The other day we had a sudden burst of thunder & lightning and hail/sleet/snow, it only last a few minutes. It doesn’t thunder & lightning when it snows!!!

  3. very lovely! i’m admittedly jealous of your rhubarb… we’re still a frozen tundra over here.
but i’m not really complaining, i’ll take as much winter as nature wants to throw at us and save my grumbles for when it’s hot and humid and nasty this summer!

  4. Oh my goodness, rhubarb!!! Yummy! It’s still bitterly cold here, although the daffodils are just coming through. Ros

  5. oh my, March was crazy here as well. Snow, thunderstorms, torrential downpours, 20 degrees one day, 60 the next. You would think I’d be use to March in this valley but now but it surprises me every time! We’re a little behind you with flowers and birds, but I know they are coming!

Welcome! I always like to hear what people think of a post, it often leads to a great discussion! I am now responding to comments and questions right in the comments themselves, so other people can follow the conversation.
