Ralph River, July 2009

This, for me, is the quintessential summer camping picture. This is the memory of camping: dusty road, meandering along in the dappled light, staring up at the big trees. Mr. Kate, Bush Boy and Chika could be going anywhere – off to swim, to fish, to explore or even just to get water. This scene is repeated every day, more than once a day, on every camping trip. It is the familiar feel of camping, and for me tells the story of many trips, many years and many family times.

  1. Ah, this is very special. I esp. love dappled sunlight, am looking at some as I type. Bring on the camping! I suppose if you camped in your backyard it would be gorgeous, too :) You’re all so very blessed to live where you live.

  2. those giant giant trees are just amazing!

  3. it’s so wonderful!!

  4. Great, classic camping picture Kate! This one also brings back many memories of when we camped as as a family…bikes would always be part of the trip and we’d find dirt road after dirt road to explore.
