For our family there is no more fitting way to welcome the new year than a walk along one of our local rivers.
The Quinsam River is where the boys do most of their fishing, and Mr. Kate was on the look out for evidence of the rumoured winter Steelhead run. The forest was lush and green, and the dog had great fun darting in and out of the trees.
As this is an active salmon river (the local hatchery is further upstream) there was still lots of evidence, both visual and olfactory, of the fall’s salmon spawning.
Trees had come down recently, some falling across the trail. We each had our own way of getting around the deadfall.
A good walk is the perfect way to start the new year, as it clears away the holiday cobwebs and renews one’s energy.
I think you chose the perfect way to start the new year. So…what method did Kate use to get over the fallen limbs? :)
