KINDNESS
That’s my word for 2010. Kindness. I would like to focus my energy on giving a little more kindness to the world around me. In particular to those I don’t know well — a little more patience and kindness and good will to the people in line ahead of me, the cars on the road when I’m driving, the kids in the hall at school. I will also focus on kindness to those in my life — affording more kind words and fewer snapped words. There is enough negative energy in the world today, and perhaps I can take some of that negativity out of my life and others’ lives, by remembering to show kindness. I don’t mean the false, over-smiley kindness. I mean the genuine thing, kindness of spirit and truth.
I asked my guys to join me in choosing a word this year. (Bush Boy informed me I didn’t need to choose kindness as my word, which made me melt just a little inside. Thank goodness my son thinks I am kind!) So Mr. Kate chose the word FUN. He would like to bring more fun into his life as a focus, rather than the stress of work or extended family or finances, etc. Or rather, focus on the fun we do have, and not let it pass by unnoticed. Bush Boy chose the word POSITIVE. It is something he struggles with at times, to see the positive in a situation. I thought it was a very insightful word for him to choose.
Won’t you join us? What would your word be this year?
I’ll be doing some artwork again around our words, and will share that with you in the next week or so.
Happy New Year!
I love the idea of choosing a word Kate, and love the ones that you and your guys chose. I will have to give this some thought myself.
Happy New Year!

kindness is a wonderful word – as are fun and positive.
i really like this idea having a word to focus on. i’ve been thinking about this since your last post and i decided my word will be “present.” i’ve been trying to focus on being “in the moment” and enjoying each moment in that moment. it will be a struggle for me, but i think it is a good goal to have.
thank you for inspiring me – happy 2010 to you!!

I think all those words/goals are fabulous choices (although I can’t imagine you ever not being kind!). Ever since you posted this last year, I’ve wanted to do it on some level. So I’ve been thinking about it the past few days…there are four that always come to mind: your 2009 word (Awareness), balance, positive (to steal it from Bush Boy but something I struggle with as well), and simplicity…which ‘one’ to focus on? I think in the end, I need to focus on being more positive…if I can manage that, I have a feeling that all the other things may come more easily. Thanks for reminding me to take part!
I wish you and your family the best in 2010!
