I’m on deadlines and I have a student coming for an English lesson tomorrow and I’ve got a Scholastic order to distribute at the school this week. Life is crazy making, especially when my deadlines are dependent on other people, and the postal system.
So, I leave you with this quote I saw on someone else’s blog. I looked it up, it comes from a parenting book that I haven’t read. But I liked the quote very much.
“We live in a culture which does not place great value on parenting as valued and honoured work. It is considered perfectly acceptable for people to give one hundred percent to their careers, or to ‘their relationships’, or to ‘finding themselves’, but not to their children.
Myla and Jon Kabat-Zinn
Oh so true – and oh so depressing! I find it infuriating when the parents of my students place their children at the bottom of their “to do” lists.
