Falling into Fall

Cold mornings make me shiver as I go to the shower,
The fresh air coming in the window has a decided nip.
Dark now, lights need to be turned on,
No more showering  with the sunlight of summer.
.
Thinking of stews and soups and roasts,
Summer barbeques a thing of the past.
The last vines pulled out of the garden,
Another year of fresh produce from the back yard is done.
.
Afternoon sunshine brings out the short-sleeves,
Evening damp brings out the sweaters.
Blankets are pulled off the back of the couch,
The cats are sleeping under the covers.
.
Summer is in the pictures on the table to be sorted,
In the traces of sand that fall out of the hiking bag.
We are pulling out the hats and gloves and raincoats….
We are ready to welcome the fall.
