I love my computer and the internet. As an editor, it allows me to take work from anywhere and as a writer it allows me to research and to find markets for my work. Email has allowed me to work from home, letting me raise our son in the way we wanted.
But …. there are days it drives me nuts. All week my email has been temperamental with a specific client. My server says it is them, they don’t know what the issue is. This is a major pain for me, as I have been delayed in a lot of my work waiting and waiting for files to arrive. Mail just might have been faster.
It is also a tool that allows people to work at me. They can send me messages at any time, and many expect responses. It makes it hard to set office hours or to stop working at a set time. I am often working at night or early in the morning.
However, when I talk to a client while the cat sits in my lap, I know the computer and the internet has given me an incredible gift. So for all the trials, the technology is worth it.
